For Scholars Portal Days 2025 we want to discuss building with intention, both locally and consortially. The information and technology landscape continues to rapidly expand, with increasing pressure to match its pace. As new tools and access models are developed by vendors, how does Scholars Portal stand apart? What are the core values and priorities that form the foundations of our work, and how do we design services and infrastructure built on these foundations to support libraries for the long term?

Now more than ever we understand the importance of investing intentionally — not just financially, but also with time, expertise, and care. Together we can harness our commitment to evidence-based practices, data privacy, open source technologies and ongoing maintenance in order to build capacity and safeguard control over our own resources.

Registration

To prevent Zoom fatigue, we’re spreading our agenda over two half days. Register to join us on the afternoons of May 29 and 30 to hear updates from Scholars Portal and presentations from colleagues on how we can come together to build intentional and sustainable foundations for the future of Canadian academic libraries. The sessions will be recorded and shared publicly, and live captions will be available in English.

The main audience for Scholars Portal Days is librarians and library staff at OCUL member libraries, but we welcome anyone working in a Canadian academic library to attend, as well as students in library programs.

An agenda will follow in the coming weeks.

Call for Lightning Talks

We are accepting proposals for 5-7 minute lightning talks. Submissions should be directly relevant to the theme, to Scholars Portal, or to at least one Scholars Portal service. Submissions are open to anyone working in an OCUL library or any other Canadian library that makes use of Scholars Portal services. Nous acceptons également les soumissions en français. Please submit by filling out our submission form by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sunday, April 6.
