The GeoPortal team recently completed a significant back-end upgrade, developing a scalable infrastructure to support the growing storage needs for geospatial data across OCUL. This is Phase One of a larger project to improve Scholars Portal geospatial data services. End users will experience faster downloads and better discovery.
This upgrade allows us to improve access to some of our more exciting new collections:
Southwestern Ontario Orthophotography Project (SWOOP): The GeoPortal now includes high-resolution satellite imagery of Southwestern Ontario for 2015, going back to 2006.
Historical Census Boundaries: In collaboration with the Map and Data Library, University of Toronto, and supported by many other OCUL libraries, more digital census boundaries are now available in the GeoPortal. This update covers all digital census boundaries from the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) collection. More information on this project is available on the Canadian Historical Geographic Information Systems Partnership blog: http://geohist.ca/2016/05/accessing-digital-historical-census-boundaries-just-got-a-whole-lot-easier/
