The Ontario Council of University Libraries congratulates Dr. Guy Berthiaume on his appointment as Librarian and Archivist of Canada. We are pleased that the new leader of our nation’s premier cultural heritage institution has significant experience in managing cultural and memory institutions and is himself a well respected historian. A close partnership between Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) and Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is important to the preservation of Canadian heritage and we are sure that Dr. Berthiaume will further develop this relationship.
The academic library leaders in Ontario look forward to working closely with Dr. Berthiaume and the leadership team at LAC in developing a co-ordinated national strategy for acquisition and preservation of national archival and library collections.
