Kate Davis Appointed Director of Scholars Portal

Kate Davis has been appointed as the Director of Scholars Portal, effective July 1, 2023, for a term of five years.

Kate is passionate about the capacity for libraries to work together to build equitable services that can be transformative for their users. She brings deep experience in delivering sustainable community-led infrastructure through her work with valued partners in OCUL, and other consortia and institutions across Canada. Among her many initiatives, she has recently led the development of Scholars Portal Dataverse into the Borealis Canadian Dataverse repository; provided oversight for the renewal of the Scholars Portal GeoPortal and Odesi data repositories; and expanded the use of Scholars Portal storage and preservation services such as Permafrost and the Ontario Library Research Cloud to institutions across Canada. She has also contributed extensively to the work of provincial and national committees including OCUL, CARL, CRKN, and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada to build the partnerships and shared vision that sustain this shared work. 

Kate's energy, creativity and leadership will continue to support the Scholars Portal team in their commitment to deliver excellent and innovative services. Kate first joined Scholars Portal in 2006 as the Client Services Librarian and went on to lead the implementation of the Scholars Portal eBooks platform from 2009 to 2011. She was appointed as Scholars Portal Assistant Director for Collections and Digital Preservation in 2011, and since 2021, Kate has been the Interim Director of Scholars Portal.

Kate holds a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies from the University of King's College (Dalhousie University), and a Master of Arts from the Centre of Russian and East European Studies at the University of Toronto.
