RACER stands for Rapid Access to Collections by Electronic Requesting.

RACER is an automated interlibrary loan service, which allows users to search numerous libraries’ catalogues simultaneously using Z39.50. When users find material of interest they can request to have that material delivered to their home institution's library. RACER also allows users to track the status of their requests and to receive emails informing them when requested items are available for pickup.

RACER uses a system consisting of two software components: ZPortal, a bibliographic search gateway and interlibrary loan management tool for end users; and VDX, an interlibrary loan administration tool for staff. RACER is able to communicate with other systems via the ISO protocol and Generic Script formatted emails.
