The Scholars Portal ebook platform is designed to provide a single interface for accessing digital texts from the world's most important scholarly publishers and public domain books that have been scanned and digitized for online reading and downloading.
In addition to the commercial content of over 220,000 books, the platform also contains over 370,000 open access titles that available not only to OCUL members, but also to the public at large.
While supporting teaching and research, the platform facilitates the development of innovative acquisitions and procurement models for the OCUL consortium.
The project was funded through a partnership between OCUL and the Ontario government.
The material on the platform covers a wide variety of subjects. We have used the Library of Congress Classification number from the MARC records to determine the subject breakdown across all of the collections.
Through the efforts of OCUL committees such as the Ontario Digitization Initiative, a small percentage of works published after 1923 have been made available for public use. Most of these works are government documents.
